Thank You, Fabrice
On behalf of the entire Algorand Developer Community, I wanted to say thank you to @fabrice. Fabrice is the real genius behind Algorand. He’s constantly making himself available to developers who run into bugs, challenges, and new problems building. It doesn’t matter how big or small the problem is.
Algorand Testnet Outage
On July 8th, Algorand’s Testnet was stalled from approximately 12:15 PM ET until approximately 5:15 PM ET when it resumed normal operation.
Impact
No tokens, records, etc were lost, and the protocol behaved as expected.
Root Cause
A bug in code populating an in-process cache.
Overview
The Choice Coin DAO is a leading R&D platform on the Algorand blockchain. The project started as the top prize winner at the 2021 MIT Bitcoin Hackathon after solving the Algorand DAO Challenge. The goal for Choice Coin is to build great governance technology for decentralized autonomous organizations.
New Process to Validate ASAs
Algorand Inc put in place a new process to validate ASA in the official Algorand wallet: Validation Process. Note that this validation process is independent of the validation process on algoexplorer.io. If you want your asset to be validated on algoexplorer.io, contact Randlabs.
Accounts on Algorand Blockchain
“Accounts are entities on the Algorand blockchain associated with specific on-chain local state. An Algorand Address is the unique identifier for an Algorand Account.”
I really recommend to have a look at this section of the documentation: Overview - Algorand Developer Portal
Querying Opt-in Accounts to an Application
Yes, it is possible. Here is a sample code that goes through the Application Lifecycle. I stopped it after opting in, (if you let it run all the way through, it will delete the application). This opts in for the creator account and a user account in the example. Here is the REST API endpoint...
Unique NFT ASA Implementation
That looks interesting. First two remarks:
- I don’t think you will be able to check primality on-chain. But I guess this is not a real issue as you can do it offchain.
- Block proposers can “steal” prime numbers: if they see the creation of an NFT for a prime number, they can just not include the transaction.
Independent Relay Chain Setup
Anyone can run a relay now, and any node can specify the peers (relays) it connects to, either via DNS, JSON phonebook file, or delimited list of peers to the -p argument. Given enough shared stake, people could set up a completely independent relay chain with an agreed-upon seed list.
Fast Catchup in Algorithm Validation
The problem is that the above 52 days are going to get longer and longer. At some point, it would become non-practical to catch up using sequential block validation. Using the fast catchup is like downloading a gzip file, along with an MD5 checksum. If you got the checksum correct, you can verify the integrity of the downloaded data.
Development Testing Mode
That’s an interesting idea. Create a node that would generate a block on any incoming transaction, without having any gossiping network features. That node would be able to work without any agreement and would allow dApp developers to pseudo-test their application against the Algorand framework.
Algemite Wallet Rekeying
Hey everyone! We’re excited to announce that the Algorand Wallet now supports rekeying with Ledger Nano X. This lets you add a Ledger to an existing Algorand account or swap Ledger devices, all without changing your public key, your balances, or your account configuration. For a tutorial on how to...
Confidential Transactions Inquiry
Hi, I’m new to Algorand and I have a question for the community. Does this technology support any kind of confidentiality? Like confidential transactions, data encryption, etc. I cannot find any mention of that in the documentation.
Launch of the New Algorand Developer Portal
We are thrilled to announce the launch of the new Algorand Developer Portal! Featured in this launch is a new, enhanced interface and the introduction of three new types of content for developers: Tutorials, Solutions, and Articles. These new content libraries complement our Developer Docs, which includes comprehensive information for developers.
